Letter to Charles Pray, Department of State Police from CW Cutler at Grants Pass regarding a traffic issue.
Grants Pass Oregon, Mar 1, 1933
Hon. Charles P. Pray
Sup't. Department of State police.
Salem, Oregon.
Dear Mr. Pray,
I trust that you will not think me a trouble maker when I report the following incident.
Wednesday morning the wife and I were traveling from Klammath Falls to Lakeview. A truck heavily loaded with lumber came out of the mill at Drews gap and for ten miles held the road. We sounded our horn for the privilege of the road. The driver, we could see grinning in his mirror. At times when we did attempt to pass, he would deliberately pull to the left. And finally we were forced into a ditch and off the road. however we managed to get past him, stopped and forced him to stop also. Now, as far as we could tell after careful examination the truck had no license visible. But it did have the firm name Peterson and Johnson painted on its door.
We drove on into Lakeview but could find no officer. that evening we spotted the same truck on the main street, we went onto one of the side streets, a street that had no sidewalk and no way of telling just where to stop our car. We went back to see again if we could find a license number on the truck. And the driver of the truck started his car and was so anxious to see if he could damage us that he passed our car ont he right being forced to drive up where the sidewalk should have been to do so.
We have tried to give you all the information we had with the idea that men of this type should at least be watched. Since there were two men in the truck and the two of us in our car it would have been no avail to swear out a warrant.
We, ourselves, do not want to be revengeful or mean. We have driven a car for many years without an accident or being even stopped by traffic officers. We respect them and your department. We feel that it is our duty to report a thing like this and believe that you will appreciate having the information.
Sincerely Yours
