Original double sided brass key. The key is marked GNRY for Great Norther Railway on the front and is faintly marked NP on the back.
This very unusual key may be a key to two different switch locks. Switch locks were used secure railway switches in order to keep unauthorized persons from changing the switches and potentially sending a train down the wrong tracks. They were also used to secure signals and other railroad property and equipment.
