Lights! Sound! All Aboard? The Northwest Railway Museum is heading to your screens as part of Penelope, a coming-of-age series from Duplass Brothers Productions premiering next week!
Penelope follows the adventure of the 16-year-old title character (played by Megan Stott) as she sets out on an adventure to find herself. As part of her travels away from civilization, Penelope decides to hop on a train. This is played by the Museum’s own historic passenger train and locomotive traveling along the Snoqualmie Valley, filmed back in 2022. Blink and you miss seeing a glimpse of our #4012 diesel-electric locomotive. And that scene where she sits in the open baggage door? That would be former SP&S Baggage-Coach 272. I know we are excited to see more cameos from our train set when this show debuts.
The official synopsis for the show reads: “Feeling out of place in the modern world, 16-year-old Penelope (Stott) finds herself almost cosmically drawn to nature. With no plan in place, she leaves her family behind for the beguiling wilderness of Washington State, where she begins to establish a different kind of life for herself. As Penelope forges an alternative life for herself, survivalism and coming-of-age go hand-in-hand as she learns by trial and error.”
Written by Mark Duplass and director Mel Eslyn, and executive produced by Jay Duplass and Shuli Harel, the series premiers September 24th on Netflix. Check out the trailer below, which includes a few scenes of the train!
