Costumed families wait to board Halloween Train 2024 at Snoqualmie Depot

Costumed families wait excitedly to board the Halloween Train at Snoqualmie for a “spooky” good time.

Halloween Train is now in the rear-view mirror for the Northwest Railway Museum.  This year we had some fantastic costumes on display from the littlest babies to our oldest “kiddos”.  It was even better when entire families dressed up!  NRM staff and volunteers even donned their own costumes and joined the spooky fun.

Eric Ode performed for guests in the Train Shed, and was even joined by “Weird Al”!

This year we had several activities waiting for visitors at the Railway History Campus.  Inside the Train Shed was a mini scarecrow craft activity and a spooky themed scavenger hunt with a take-home prize!  Musician Eric Ode entertained guests near our train tables and gift shop. Audience participation was encouraged!

Earl W. and his cider press showed off how apple cider was made.

Outside was Earl W., long-time NRM Volunteer and apple cider enthusiast!  Earl brought his apple cider press that he originally built in the 1970s and asked a few lucky volunteers to help demonstrate its operation.  This cider wasn’t for drinking, but hot cider was available across the way in the Railway History Campus Classroom.  Table games like Tricky Triangle, Shut the Box, and Checkers were out for play as well.  For our guests that didn’t get a chance to help Earl, there was still the apple peeling and coring demonstration led by the Education team.  We had so many helpers – both young and young at heart!

Costumed guests ride aboard the train with fall leaves and bats decorating the train.

The train was decorated with fall leaves and bats.

Even if the state of Washington isn’t known for “leaf peeping”, our train had plenty of fall foliage to look at inside!  Leaves of all orange and red hues hung in each car with a few spooky bats too!

We were happy to have three sold-out weekends to kick-off our holiday season.  If you missed out this year, make sure to mark your calendars for next year!  But don’t be left out for a Christmas treat, Santa Limited is on-sale now with tickets on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
