With the arrival of warm and sunny days in April, the Northwest Railway Museum welcomed visitors from all over, many stopping to see cherry blossoms, lovely Mt. Si views, and more.
Hippity hopping into Easter weekend, the Train Crew Easter bunnies brought delight and candy treats to visitors. The weekend was full of sunshine and happy families visiting the Snoqualmie Depot and historic downtown Snoqualmie.
Other happenings at the Museum included volunteer appreciation week, where the Museum highlighted some of its volunteers on its social media pages through interviews and the NRM’s own version of the “Faces of Railroading” exhibit currently on display in the Train Shed Exhibit Hall.
A long-awaited exhibit is now open along track 4 inside the Train Shed Exhibit Hall. It interprets the movement of food from planting to platter in the Pacific Northwest. From Farm to Rail to Table presents an O-scale model railway that travels from the mountains in the west to the wheat fields in the east and back. Work is ongoing, so keep checking back to see the continued development of this exhibit!
With summer just around the corner, the special event season is ramping up and there are endless fun-filled events on the horizon! This May, the Museum is hosting a Mother’s Day Weekend Snoqualmie Valley Wine Train on May 8th.* Come celebrate the women in your life and on the railway with local wineries, history, and hors d’oeuvres! A ticket to any Snoqualmie Valley Wine Train excursion always includes a souvenir wine glass and eight tasting tickets to exchange for 1-oz pours.
June brings another Wine Train on Juneteenth – just in time for Father’s Day Weekend too. That same weekend you can enjoy Art off the Rails, a festival celebrating art and artists in collaboration with North Bend Art & Industry and the Snoqualmie Arts Commission.
As part of America250, the Museum will be hosting an extra special Story Time event on Wednesday July 1 at Snoqualmie Depot. You can expect live music by Eric Ode, multiple stories to listen to, historic toys to play with, a craft activity to enjoy, and as always, Train Shed Exhibit Hall admission will be free for all Wednesday visitors.
Returning in July, Thomas the Tank Engine continues his long tradition of visiting the NRM for the Let’s Rock, Let’s Roll Tour. Tickets are still available… for now!
Not quitting after Day Out With Thomas, July also brings Design in Motion with Cesar Vergara, an event centered around Amtrak Cascades Talgo Series VI Bistro Car 7304 with a keynote presentation from Mexican-American designer Cesar Vergara and presentations from other Amtrak visionaries. Design in Motion will allow visitors inside the Bistro Car for the first time since its arrival at the NRM and will be the first stage of an expanded exhibit planned for the Roundhouse Exhibit Gallery. You can donate here as part of GiveBIG to help bring this exhibit to life!
*Tickets are still available, please note that Wine Train Excursions are 21+ events.
